The location is on a remote cliff top plateau on the west coast of the Mahia Peninsula.  Views of the peninsula, the Pacific Ocean, Hawkes Bay, Mahia town and surrounding hills envelope the site.  Building services are ‘off grid’, necessitating consideration of the module orientation, design and detailing, and fixtures with conservative services use. The bach caters for both the frequent owner visits as well as transient farm hand accommodation.

Due to the isolated location and limited capacity of local tradespeople, the project was envisaged as transportable modules, linked on site with external north/west facing decks and a central covered secondary dining space.  2 bedroom modules flank the main living space which itself leads directly to the exterior communal space for increased living area, and is bordered by the bunkroom and amenities module behind.
