Martin Swann
Director, Registered Architect
Qualification: BArch, ANZIAMartin is one of our Directors, and a Registered Architect who leads our Hamilton team. With over 35 years’ experience in the discipline, he has developed a passionate and intuitive approach in his pursuit of producing quality, appropriate New Zealand architecture.
As a Graduate Architect in the 1980’s Martin’s career began with DLA founders Dickson Lonergan, in Whanganui. There he was inspired and influenced by the late Barry Lonergan’s passion and his ability to put people at ease while delivering excellent architectural quality and service. A decade later, after having worked for a couple of practices in Auckland, Martin progressed to Director of Chibnall Swann Team Architecture in Hamilton, then going on to rejoin DLA as a Director in 2010.
Martin has extensive experience with large scale commercial, industrial and education projects covering new builds, alterations, and refurbishments. Due to successful ongoing relationships with repeat clients, the last 20 years has seen animal healthcare and motor car dealership projects become his specialty. The combination of his creative and technical expertise and his jovial nature makes his approach and leadership accessible and enjoyable. He encourages a flexible, family-focused working style with his colleagues which in turn fosters a thriving workplace culture for the team.
A dedicated family man, he’s also an avid cricket and rugby fan. Being a retired band guitarist, he’s a follower of all things music, and is partial to the odd social tipple here and there.
